WILLIAMSBURG WOMEN’S CHORUS VOCAL SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

Purpose
The purpose of the Williamsburg Women’s Chorus Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a female high school student to further her vocal education.

Parameters
The scholarship shall be in the amount of $300, and shall be paid directly to the student’s voice instructor to cover lesson fees.

The scholarship winner shall be announced at the end of a school year and the funds shall be awarded to coincide with the beginning of the following school year. (i.e. for the 2008-2009 scholarship, the winner shall be announced by June 2009 and the funds disbursed in September 2009)

Eligibility
Only female students are eligible for this scholarship.
Applicants must reside within the greater Williamsburg postal area or in James City County.

Female students who are concluding grades 8 through 11 and who will be entering grades 9 through 12 are eligible to apply.

Deadline
April 30 each year
(i.e. for the 2008-2009 award year, application is due April 30, 2009)

Considerations
The following areas will be taken into consideration when awarding the scholarship:

• Acceptance of applicant to study with a recognized music professional
• A demonstrated, sustained interest in music and vocal arts
• A need for financial assistance
• Vocal ability
