Victoria Brinkley, Lafayette High School, was chosen to receive the Williamsburg Women's Chorus' 2008-09 voice scholarship. She has been studying voice with her mother for several years and earned her first Gold Cup in the National Federation of Music Clubs Festival in vocal solo this past school year. She also competed in the state-wide Mary Smart competition in voice and won fourth place.
Although in marching band, concert band and the jazz ensemble at Lafayette, she has just been selected to sing with the "Harmonics" choral group there. (Students cannot take both band and chorus at the same time.) Victoria is a graduate of the Early Childhood Music School in Williamsburg and has been studying piano since age 5. In band, she has played trombone, euphonium, tenor and alto sax, and is now learning the French horn.
Victoria plans to use the scholarship funds to help pay for summer music camp/vocal instruction.
